Mémoire d’arbre > Yuhsin U Chang, 2019

During her visit last November to consider a site for a sculpture, her attention was aroused by the layout and the particular nature of Parc des Buissonnets. On this stretch of territory are present different forms and representations of living things – plant, animal, comfort arrangements – all linked to the intervention of man over time. In this landscaped and wooded nature, here and there, trunks await and punctuate our gaze. Lying down or vertical, in more or less advanced decompositions, they form another landscape, a third territory which nests the often imperceptible and constantly renewed activities of insects, larvae, worms, beetles, of everything that perpetuates a living and active nature. This renewed nature opens the doors to a positive future carrying the Eldorado of biodiversity. Opposite the retirement home and at the edge of the plot, a dead tree, isolated, still vertical, without foliage, massive, with an imposing root system from which its two boles emerge. The work draws a cycle between past and present, redrawing the cycle of transformation of the living : a link, a place of transformation, a passage while inscribing it in the memory of trees.

The artist

Yuhsin U Chang

Born in Taiwan in 1980, organic sculptor Yuhsin U Chang graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Art in Bourges. She uses wool, leather, wood, linen and even dust to explore the poetry of life through raw materials. Her sculptures establish an intimate and dreamlike relationship with their context and suspend the headlong rush of this world.
