Terre, terrils et terriens > Green Resistance, 2020

In the mining area, the constructions of the past mark the landscape significantly. The region was the most industrialized space in the country at the time. Slag heaps rose on the ground, metallurgical buildings punctuated the landscape and were a trace of industries. By building on existing or missing buildings, Green Resistance has fueled its participatory project. Wishing for a logical and sustainable reconquest of this territory by the inhabitants, the landscapers included the Calonnois and Calonnoises in the project through workshops, exchanges and joint construction times. A metal slag heap and a wooden headframe took shape, between local memories and collective know-how. These creations rematerialize mining activities in an ancient city where nature today veils the traces of this district of yesteryear. This desire to bring back these objects from the past aims to affirm a history and a memory that the territory cannot forget. But unlike the time, these factories will not be in operation. Surrounded by meadows of flowers and appealing to the eye, headframe and slag heap punctuats the promenade, like the peaceful vestiges of a collective memory.

The artist

Green Resistance

Since 2014, the collective Green Resistance combines cultural mediators, landscapers, environmentalists and scenographers. Coming from different horizons, the École du Breuil, the École Nationale Supérieure de Paysage de Versailles, the AgroParisTech or the Compagnons du Devoir, they undertake actions that have been conceived in an ethical and responsible way, with an ecological approach. Their projects are aimed at preserving the environment and biodiversity while promoting culture in all its forms.
