As a continuation of the International Garden Festival in the Hortillonnages, Art & jardins | Hauts-de-France is proposing a reclamation of the banks of the Somme River through artistic and landscape creations. The gardens of the Somme Valley aim to highlight the riverbanks, emphasizing the incredible backbone the river has represented for its territory since antiquity: a mosaic of natural environments, the omnipresence of water, and a great diversity of fauna, flora, and biodiversity.

Drawing on its professional expertise, the association was invited by the Somme Departmental Council to participate in the Vallée de Somme, Vallée Idéale, and Un Pont une Œuvre projects by designing new artworks and gardens near the lock houses and various emblematic sites throughout the valley.

Six artworks and gardens are already contributing to the landscape, artistic, and poetic journey from Saint-Quentin to the Bay of the Somme via Amiens.

“All our plastic and landscape creations are resolutely contemporary. They penetrate the public space, the gardens, the cities, at the heart of built and natural heritage. There is always talk of sustainable development, social integration and basic resources: water, agriculture and food. They must be participatory through active involvement of the public in the creation, enhancement and sustainability of this new heritage.  Gilbert Fillinger
