This work addresses the impact of human beings on nature and the harmful consequences that follow. It stages an open window onto the aquatic world : a space where no act of protection has ever been carried out. An absence that slowly condemns these places and the flora and fauna that inhabit them. The work seeks to raise public awareness of the human footprint in the natural environment : a trace that can lead to the gradual destruction of that environment without anyone even noticing.

The materials chosen carry this message. Fishing nets suspended from the ceiling evoke destructive fishing practices and an excessive human presence. These nets hold fish made from papier mâché using local newspapers: a grounding in the local territory through which to speak of the flora and fauna that belong to it. The fish hang from fishing lines that pass through their backs like so many hooks. Across the floor spreads silt that creeps progressively up the walls: like quicksand where the harder one tries to escape the deeper one sinks. Resting on this silt are salvaged objects that reveal an invisible degradation of the water.

The artist

Collectif A8 : Vincent Lamblot, Castiel Barbier, Athyna Bainhart, Ninon Robert, Nour El Amri, Emma Pomian, Cathie Mary & Maria Jimenez

Maria Jimenez, Venezuelan. She develops a practice around various printmaking techniques and the exploration of intimate spaces such as the home, solitude and migration. Cathie Marie, whose practice revolves around the idea of disappearance and dispersion. Her work explores the space between presence and absence, between what appears and what might vanish. Athyna Bainhart. Her artistic practice is built around symbols and beliefs drawn from Balkan folklore, through various media including linocut, embroidery, papier mâché and modelling. Her practice transforms matter into a vehicle of transmission, between identity affirmation and spiritual resurgence. Ninon Robert, originally from the island of Réunion. Her artistic research centres on questions of identity tension, and in particular the notion of "thinking against oneself." She is interested in inner conflict, cultural inheritance and the intimate fractures that run through individuals when they confront their own contradictions. Emma Pomian, whose practice revolves around intimacy, denunciation and the female figure. She works across various media including sculpture and primarily installation. Nour El Amri, Tunisian, works with raw and fragile materials to create design objects. Her work plays on the notion of the delicately brutal and the dangerous. Castiel Barbier, whose practice is primarily drawn to mythology. He works across a range of techniques from installation to printmaking and cyanotype. His aim is to engage with mythology not as an object of study but as a site of reappropriation and narrative questioning. Vincent Lamblot, whose practice gravitates around notions of disappearance, nature and spirituality, explored through form and colour, using materials such as dry pastels, coloured pencils and clay sculpture.
